Artist's Comments

Finished inking, tweaking, colouring, and shading the lineart I posted a couple days ago. I was definitly trying to get "cold" into this. How'd I do?

[edit] Fixed some rather idiotic choices with the shading, and added the snowstorm that makes the damn image make sense.

Total improvement over the last sketch, good job! I see you trying to throw some more skin tones and cool colors in there. Don't cheat yourself when you feel that.

This is a mood piece to me, its not all taboo to really push the color. Like a new chapter cover or spread, that sets the mood for the rest of the chapter.

Again, nice work dude!

Thanks!

I was trying to create a colour contrast between her skin and her surroundings... which is the main reason that everything else is cool colours. I'm taking from your comment that it worked out alright.

I'm a little wary about going nuts with the colour. For the most part, my experience with heavily saturated colours hasn't turned out too well (something to work on, I guess). Another thing is the shading technique I'm using... it really only works well with light, desaturated colours underneath, which eventually become the highlights. It's quick and painless, but it doesn't lend itself to bold colours. I'll try to figure something out, though.

The warmth really come through in her skin but it does look very cold and foreboding. <3 I like it ALOT! :3 Moar like this k?

lol I JUST realized I didn't proof read that post. Guh, parenting isn't working for me atall. <3 And you're always welcome Ian. :P Just wish we talked more! :3

If you have a system that works finished works don't let me convince you to change it. Just some color studies once and a while to keep it fresh.

Work with the colors some more. They're still kinda popping considering how cold it's supposed to be.

I'm having trouble placing exactly where the light source is supposed to be, based on the shadows. Maybe that's my problem, though.

Shadows are pretty sharp considering that it's supposed to be a really dismal winter day, with an overcast sky. Actually it's the kinda day that sort of washes all the color out of everything, doesn't it? (See point one.)

Just in case you miss it in your watch list, I just fixed a bunch of issues with this.

Take another look, I did some fixes. :)
